2009 1-26 Sweepstakes Results

The 2009 1-26 Sweeps are over.

(full Sweepstakes standings and flights)

This year's results fell short of previous years but the Sweeps are still alive and will be for years to come. While OLC flights have been "the rage" lately the tougher rules for the Sweepstakes flights make them more amazing. Here are the results:

In the Diamond division late in the year, Chukar Spielman took the lead from Hangman Levy in the West for a personal best. Ron Schwartz set a new total miles record of 2414 miles in the Eastern division and used his Championship flights to win both the Eastern and Central divisions. The top three pilots in the Diamond division, Ron, Chukar and Hangman, all beat last year's record total of 2,163 miles. Way to go guys!

#2 Doug Levy 2,242.57 Miles
#3 Ian Cant 726.54 Miles

#2 Jim Hard 932.81 Miles
#3 Charles Shaw 820.72 Miles

The awesome flights in the Diamond division are inspiration for all of us that fly a 1-26 and the top pilots are getting better and better.

The primary goal of the Sweepstakes is to increase participation in cross country flights and get them logged at ALL levels, but especially the beginners at the Bronze level. This will work best if as many 1-26 pilots as possible make a decision to mentor somebody in the Bronze category and make them fly and record their flights in 2010. We need to promote and share the FUN of flying a 1-26. It's difficult enough to fly cross country in glass. It's amazing in a 1-26!

Safe and fun flying in 2010 !
